A way to transform an old tattoo into something new.

Maybe your tattoo didn't turn out the way you pictured it, or maybe it's faded and lost its impact over the years. You might not connect with it anymore, or you might still love the idea but want to give it new life. Either way, you have options. We can cover it with a completely new design, or we can revamp what's already there by adding color, detail, size, or script.

For cover-ups, we design a new tattoo that goes over the old one, using darker inks and strategic placement to hide what's underneath. The new design will always be larger than the original to make sure everything gets covered. In some cases, we might recommend a session or two of laser removal first to lighten the old tattoo and give us more flexibility with the new design.

For revamps, we work with what you already have and bring it back to life. This could mean refreshing faded color, enlarging the design, adding shading or details, or incorporating script. It's for people who still like their tattoo but want it to look cleaner, bolder, or more current.

How it works:

Click "Book My Consultation" below to schedule this free consultation, available in-person or virtually. We'll look at your tattoo, talk through what's possible, and once you're ready to move forward, we'll book your first session.

The number of sessions depends on the size and complexity of the work. Cover-ups are typically done over one or more sessions depending on how large the piece is. Revamps can be a single session or multiple depending on the complexity. Your tattoo will heal the same way any new tattoo does, following standard aftercare for the next few weeks.

Includes: Free consultation (in-person or virtual), custom design, tattoo session(s), and full aftercare instructions.

How do tattoo cover-up’s and revamps work?

When you get a cover-up, the new ink sits in the same skin layer as the old ink. That means the colors mix. Red and blue make purple. Yellow and black make dark green. Your artist has to think about what's already there and design around it. That's why darker colors work better for cover-ups because they overpower whatever's underneath. If you want more color options or a lighter design, we can do a session or two of tattoo removal first to lighten what's there. The artist will build the new design to account for the shape and color of your old tattoo, making sure the new piece is big enough to hide everything.

Revamps don't try to hide the original tattoo. Instead, your artist reinforces what's already there. Lines that have blown out or faded get retraced with fresh ink. Colors that have dulled get saturated again. Small tattoos get expanded outward by adding elements that complement the original design. Simple, flat pieces get dimension through shading and detail work. You can also add script or other imagery that ties into the original concept. The idea is to keep the tattoo you have but make it look cleaner and more intentional, like something you'd get done today instead of something you got years ago.

Cover-up tattoos

A cover-up replaces your old tattoo with something new. Your artist builds the design around what's already there, accounting for the colors that will mix and the shape that needs to be hidden. The process takes longer than a regular tattoo because there's more planning involved.

Best for:

Anyone who wants to completely replace an old tattoo they don't connect with anymore. Works especially well on faded or lighter tattoos where there's more flexibility with design and color.

What to expect:

Your artist photographs your tattoo and plans the design. They might draw directly on your skin, create a digital mockup to show you beforehand, or both. Depending on size, this could take one appointment or multiple. In some cases, we'll recommend a round of laser removal beforehand to lighten the old ink and open up more design options.

The look:

A completely new tattoo in place of the old one. The new design will be larger to ensure full coverage. Darker colors and bold imagery work best.

Revamp tattoos

A revamp keeps your original tattoo but updates it to look cleaner, bolder, or more detailed. Your artist works with what's already there and enhances it. This could mean refreshing faded color, enlarging the design, adding shading or background elements, or incorporating script that ties into the original concept.

Best for:

People who still like their tattoo but want it to look newer or more polished. Works well on older tattoos that have faded or lost sharpness over time, or pieces that feel incomplete.

What to expect:

Your artist will assess what can be improved and plan the additions or corrections. They might sketch directly on your skin to show you the expanded design, or talk through color and detail options with you. Depending on how much gets added, this could be one session or multiple.

The look:

The same tattoo you started with, but refreshed. Lines are crisper, colors are saturated again, and the overall design feels more intentional. It'll look like a newer, better version of what you had.

In most cases, yes. We handle these as revamps, add-ons, or cover-ups depending on the tattoo’s age, saturation, scarring, style, and placement. Many effective cover-ups need to be a bit larger or use denser/darker design to hide existing lines, and in some cases laser lightening first gives you far more design options and a cleaner result.
